Attitudes - Curiosity and Cooperation
To develop curiosity and discussion the classes initially we look at Hundertwasser's artwork. We use posters which are available through the link below.
During the first lesson I prepared a power point presentation to look at the artwork produced by Hundertwasser. This is an ideal way in to the unit, the colours instantly capture the student’s attention and this encourages them to look more deeply at the artwork. Initially inaccessible to them the colours, then lines and shapes command their discussions and then as so often happens they begin to make meaning drawing upon their experiences, whether obvious or the combinations of certain elements. The students begin to see eyes, mouths and faces.
The final slide is the birds eye perspective map of the city of Baku (where our school is situated). This is interesting because of the stark differences between the layout of a new and an old city. The old city streets and buildings are irregular, whilst the new city is laid out on a grid basis. This leads to the first task.
